Medical Writing

During my career, I've drafted patient communications to enhance understanding of a clinical trial, boost enrollment, and ensure participants felt supported. The study site communications I've written notified partners about important meetings or trial milestones, or expressed gratitude, while the B2B marketing materials I drafted or reviewed raised brand awareness and conveyed the value of a company's services or offerings.

The tone and writing style may vary by audience, but for the most part, these materials required being as clear and concise as possible. Particularly for trial participants, I focused on simplifying dense clinical trial protocols into plain language while also adhering to standards and guidelines set by institutional review boards.

Study Guides

Clinical trials or research studies may utilize study guides to help participants understand what is expected from their participation and serve as a reminder about what upcoming study visits entail. For this guide, I distilled the original scientific protocol into a plainer language document, so that it could be an easily scannable reference for study participants.

Informed Consents

Following any template and client style considerations and adhering to institutional review board requirements, I wrote and edited informed consents for multiple clinical protocols. These consents provided protocol information and what participation entailed, including any potential benefits or risks to participation.

Patient Materials

Clinical trial materials for patients should be useful and easy to read. This appointment card was used as a portable reminder for the patient and employs short, high-level guidance and clear prompts to encourage the patient, their caregiver, and their healthcare provider to fill in specific contact and study participation information. Note that the copy I wrote in this sample is for a trifold card with several panels.

Study Site Communications

Engagement with study sites should not be confined to informational or transactional messages. Sending quick notes relaying gratitude, particularly on awareness days or during key points in their participation, is one way to make these sites feel supported as partners in helping move research forward. I drafted these messages with an earnest and motivational tone.

Social Media Posts

Pharmaceutical companies may utilize social media for B2B marketing purposes. Regardless of the platform, I aimed to make these posts brief in conveying a key benefit of the company's product(s) or service(s), and used an empathetic or inspirational tone as much as possible.
